PROFESSIONAL SERVICES OVERVIEW:

We design places on the land. These places range from the small and intimate garden to the large places. We have titled our company with the term “environmental design” because we design with, in and upon the environment -- from a broad and focused viewpoint. We are able to see our work from the position of space and time while also respecting the character of the ecosystems within the places where we work. We once jeopardized our pursuit of site planning for a horse farm by suggesting that the existing wetland area of the property be preserved and not used for pastureland. We respect the natural systems of the land and recommend sensitive preservation and enhancement of those systems. For horse farms we have preserved, created, and replaced the terracing after land that contained existing terraces was “graded down, and the terraces removed.” This respects the need for drainage flow to be detained and directed. Where practical we seek to propose numerous collection points for storm water rather than one large hole in the “front yard” that spoils the visual character of the site.

We work well in terms of varied disciplines because we listen and respond. We are able to listen, think and present solutions that meet the purpose, the needs and the place involved with the project.
